COVID 19 DAYS - FRIENDS FOREVER - FRIENDHSHIP DAY 42 nd ANNIVERSARY NAVAL TECHNICAL BATCH 1978 - NEW WAY OF ANNIVERSARY ONLINE ZOOM
GET TOGETHER

A  Novel way of Get Together was organised on the 42nd Anniversary Get Together of the Naval Technical Batch 1978 was organised on 31 July 1978. A zoom get together was organised where 28 families participated actively. All of them were very happy to connect and really enjoyed each other's company.

A brief background of the Naval Technical Batch 1978 is given below.

It comprises of 35 Marine Engineers. The Batch Photograph with their names  can be seen below.

The course also comprises of 16 Electrical Officers and 6 Constructor Officers. The Batch Photograph with their names can be seen in the Photograph below.

The Course further comprised of  officers who joined as Direct promotions from the Ranks in the Upper Yard man scheme. Course Photo is below.

The Course is unique in that two Musician officers were also part of this course. They both reached the Top rank in their branch in the Navy.

The Course is very well knit and so are their families closely knit over a period of time. The course has a get together every year, in different cities and countries.

The Course has produced a Chief of Materiel the highest technical rank a technical officer can achieve in the Indian Navy. Vice Admiral Ashok V Subhedar.

The Course has also produced an officer of the rank of Rear Admiral. Rear Admiral Samir Saran Lal.

The Course is unique in that it has a very talented Officer who joined as a CW officer. He is the Jewel of the course and he and his wife are very dearly loved by all the coursemates and their families.

Most of the Course has been promoted to the rank of Commodore and few only left early from the Indian Navy for better pastures and have done really well in the Corporate World and brought a name for the Indian Navy and the batch.

The Zoom get together a first of its kind was organised by K A Ramnath and his wife Nirmala Ramnath. It was a great hit and promises have been made to have it on a monthly basis, till life comes back to normal.

The group also has a very active Whatsapp group whose Logo is shown below. Message gives the vision of the Group. Friends Forever. I am writing this on the Friendship day to celebrate the occasion.

The Banners created for the 42nd Anniversary Get Together are shown below. It shows the creativity and bonhomie amongst the group members.

Few online cakes were exchanged. Sample here.

The smiling faces of the participants from the batch to the first ever online Get Together of the course are given below. Names of the participants can also be seen from the photographs. It was a memorable day.

One can make out the fun from the faces of the participants in the above photographs.

Sakti Singh Das entralled the participants with his melodious song on the Harmonica. He is an accomplished Harmonica player who continues to give online performances and is a member of the elite group of Harmonica players of the Country.

An innovative Tambola was also played during the Zoom get together. This was organised by K A Ramnath and Nirmala Ramnath and all the participants really enjoyed it.

I happened to be travelling during the Zoom meeting and could participate only for a short duration. A memory of the same is here.

This batch has been having Annual Get Together from the time they joined the Indian Navy. It has been a great time together as Gentleman joined Navy, got married, had children and now the children are in various top positions all of them doing great. It has been an eventful journey amongst friends and I am sure this will continue forever.

A few memorable photographs from the earlier Get Togethers are also given here. The course has had International Get Togethers at China, Bhutan, Uzbekistan, Srilanka etc Several of them in tourist destinations in India like Corbett, Jamnagar, Lonavla etc etc.
More about these get togethers in future blogs.

Enjoy a small video of this great batch. Long live friendship day.

I and my wife have been priviliged to be part of this great extended family and fondly remember each and every moment spent together.

Our sincere thanks to K A Ramnath and Nirmala Ramnath for making this Zoom Get together possible in these trying times and that all of us could meet each other through this Novel way of Online Get Together.

Please enjoy and share this blog amongst friends and well wishers to see how happily the Indian Naval family lives together.

  2. Well documented. Infact most of us are closer now than we were whilst we were serving. Not often do you come across a course which consists of all branches of the Navy. It must be the only one of its kind.
