The Way of the Intelligent Rebel: Succeed Outside the System, Teach Yourself Anything and Achieve Ultimate Freedom by Olivier Roland
To start with, Olivier shares “3 Key Principles for Success in All Areas of Your Life.” These three principles will enable you to select your own methods and use them effectively.
know that you are not one of them? You need to test the situation, adopting the healthy skeptic approach. PRINCIPLE 3 – THE PARETO PRINCIPLE OR THE ‘80/20’ RULE: The rule or principle can be summed up as follows: 80 percent of effects are produced by 20 percent of causes. Of course, the figure isn’t exactly 80/20. But once you start analyzing the world around you with this principle in mind, you will be surprised to find how often you can get 80 percent of the results you are aiming for by focusing on 20 percent of your most important activities. You will then become very good at applying methods that are in themselves excellent. This double leverage will give you an enormous advantage over others who have not understood the principles and/or have not applied them. |
And for fun, we wanted to share just one of the practical strategies that Olivier shares which is especially close to our hearts. |
AN 80/20 TECHNIQUE FOR REALLY GETTING SOMETHING OUT OF BOOKS If reading is good, getting something practical out of what you read is better. So here is a simple 80/20 technique that will help you boost the application rate of the inspiring books you read. But let me warn you: it is so extraordinary a technique that it could completely upset your whole worldview. So, before you begin, I suggest you take a deep breath and relax. And sit down. Ready? Good. You are going to take some notes. In taking notes, you are going to focus on actions. In other words, you will take notes not to summarize theoretical ideas but to make a list of practical things you can do in your personal life and business. So, it’s simple: whenever you open a book on practical matters, switch on your practical‑action scanner. And note down the things you will do. Nothing else. Big ideas and actions that are not immediately applicable must be shown the door. Then, when you have finished reading the book, reread your notes and choose something you will start putting into practice in the next 48 hours. Ideally, choose a simple 80/20 action that can be implemented quickly, and potentially do you a lot of good. Click here to listen Free on Audible |
